Category 5e UTP Cable



The cable of choice for all home automators is Category 5 (CAT5) or Category 6 (CAT6). This cable is extremely versatile and can be used for many applications. For instance: computer networking, telephony, low voltage power, signalling (movement detectors, temperature sensors, rain sensors, etc, etc).

We suggest fitting as much CAT5 or CAT6 as you can afford (also bear in mind that if you intend installing more than one CAT5/CAT6 cable in an outlet, it significantly reduces time by purchasing 2 boxes, so that both cables can be pulled at once). It is not uncommon to have 2 kilometres or more of CAT5/CAT6 cable fitted throughout an automated home !!
